Written by Dan Shotz & Robert Levine. Illustrated by Alejandro F. Giralbo. Covers by Scott West and John Christmas, plus a photo cover.

Evidently there are more Jericho fans out there than we ever suspected. Or maybe the list of properties to license is just getting kinda short. Regardless, this new series presents what would have been the basis for a third season of the tv show if it hadn’t been cancelled.

There is some decent creative talent involved in this project, and as a bonus there are two covers by legendary film poster artist, Dave Dorman, best known for his work on the STAR WARS films.

HAUNT #1

Written by Robert Kirkman. Illustrated by Greg Capullo, Ryan Ottley, & Todd McFarlane. Covers by Todd McFarlane, Ryan Ottley, and Greg Capullo.

Remember a few San Diego cons ago, when Kirkman totally clowned Toddy Mac at Todd’s own panel, where Kirkman challenged McFarlane to create more comics instead of buying baseballs and making Halo toys? No? Well, this is what came of that heated throwdown. Created by Kirkman and McFarlane, with Kirkman writing, Capullo providing breakdowns, Ottley doing pencils, and McFarlane inking it all. The story goes like this: Daniel Kilgore is being haunted by the ghost of his brother Kurt. Kurt was a secret agent and is now leading Daniel from beyond the grave to solve his own murder. Why Daniel has to cosplay in a homebrew Venom costume is beyond me. Guess we’ll just have to read it and find out.

These agents became known as triplets. And they completely failed. Except now someone is using these triplets as kick-ass assassins, and our only hope is a triplet known only as Cowboy Ninja Viking. (Okay, truth be told, this is likely only the second best concept ever, after the incredible CHEW. You guys are all reading CHEW, right?! You better be!)

In this tale of the worst dressed hero of any age, the title character makes the strenuous journey from the new land to the old world in an effort to avoid the evils of Norman Osborn.

WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #1

Written by J.M. DeMatteis, Tom DeFalco, and others. Illustrated by Val Semeiks, Ron Frenz, and others. Cover by Pasqual Ferry.

This new Spider book replaces the recently cancelled SPIDER-MAN FAMILY and will have a similar anthology style format, but makes the focus of the stories tie-in closer to the events happening in ASM. Plus, this title will feature the continuing adventures of Peter Parker’s daughter, the Amazing Spider-Girl. The only real question is if the growing trend of multiple stories in one book is generosity on the part of publishers (yeah, right) or a surrender to the reality that most artists today simply can’t handle 22 pages a month.

WAR MACHINE #11

Written by Greg Pak. Illustrated by Wellington Alves. Cover by Francesco Mattina.

This has proven to be the biggest surprise thrill ride this past year as Pak has carefully restored Jim Rhodes to the morally conflicted hero who will do anything to protect the innocent; and he has, crossing lines that even Frank Castle hasn’t come across. Now, brought before the international courts, Rhodey finds himself on trial, painted with the same brush as the villains he so despises. How will his fellow heroes react as one of their own faces judgement? Keep reading to find out.

WOLVERINE ART APPRECIATION (one-shot)

Written by John Rhett Thomas. Illustrated by various.

A beautiful collection of Wolverine covers from the recent “Wolverine Art Appreciation Month” by some of the industry’s top talents, all based on or inspired by artistic classics such as Rembrandt or Warhol.

X-FORCE #20

Written by Craig Kyle & Christopher Yost. Illustrated by Mike Choi.

There never seems to be a moment’s rest for X-Force, and this issue is no different, as the current four issue arc wraps up and leads directly into this month’s NECROSHA one-shot.

X-FORCE / NEW MUTANTS: NECROSHA (one-shot)

Written by Craig Kyle & Christopher Yost, Zeb Wells, and Mike Carey. Illustrated by Clayton Crain.

The next mutant mini-event begins here, with the evil plans of the Black Queen, Selene, coming to fruition. This one-shot will lead into the stories happening in X-FORCE, X-MEN LEGACY, and THE NEW MUTANTS for the next few months, and looks to shake things up in a big way.

ASTONISHING X-MEN #31

Written by Warren Ellis. Illustrated by Phil Jimenez. Wraparound cover by Phil Jimenez. Variant cover by Travis Charest.

The second story of Ellis’ run on AXM begins with the next best thing to George Perez along for the ride on artistic duties. And a Travis Charest cover too! This is a no-brainer.

UNCANNY X-MEN #516

Written by Matt Fraction. Illustrated by Greg Land.

The return of the X-Men’s biggest bad guy happens this issue. In case you haven’t seen the cover image in this month’s Marvel Previews, here’s a small hint: he wears a silly red helmet, and is magnetic … and no, I don’t mean the Crimson Dynamo.

X-MEN LEGACY #228

Written by Mike Carey. Illustrated by Daniel Acuna.

Carey goes WAY back in the mutant archives to dig up the very first villain ever faced by Generation X, an insidious mutant who craves mutant bone marrow. Can the decimated X-Men stop Emplate before he reduces the population of the already endangered species of mutants? And am I the only one who remembered Emplate without having to rifle through the back issue bins? And does that make me more or less cool than the rest of you?

X-MEN VS. AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 (of 2)

Written by Jeff Parker. Illustrated by Carlo Pagulayan. Cover by Ed McGuinness.

In a classic punch first, team up later cross-over, the Agents of Atlas break into the X-Men’s San Francisco headquarters in order to make use of Cerebra and scan the globe for their kidnapped team mate Venus. The merry mutants take offence to the intrusion, especially with that “No Solicitations” sign on their front gate, and decide to lay the smack down on the intruders. As always in such situations, the question is whether or not these two teams can put aside their differences in time to save the day.

X-FACTOR #50

Written by Peter David. Illustrated by Valentine De Landro. Cover by David Yardin.

The storylines of the past year come to a spectacular conclusion in this over-sized anniversary issue of one of the most underrated series on the stands.

ANITA BLAKE, VAMPIRE HUNTER: GUILTY PLEASURES - THE COMPLETE COLLECTION HC

KABUKI: THE ALCHEMY TP

Written & illustrated by David Mack.

One of the smartest things Marvel has done in recent years is to create the Icon imprint. Under this imprint, David Mack has revived the work that made him famous: Kabuki. This book collects all nine issues of the Eisner nominated “Kabuki: The Alchemy” series and includes such bonus goodies as alternate endings, art pieces, scripts, and more.

OZ: THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ HC

Written by Eric Shanower. Illustrated by Skottie Young.

Marvel has really been knocking them out of the park with their adaptations of classic stories, and this series only further adds to their accomplishments. Skottie Young is the perfect choice to illustrate the adventures of young Dorothy Gale as she journeys to the Emerald City in an attempt to find a way home.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE HC

Written by Nancy Butler. Illustrated by Hugo Petrus.

Most guys cannot bring themselves to read the novel this collection is based upon, and yet it still stands as one of the most influential and beloved books ever. If you’re one of those guys, pick this hardcover up and start quoting those memorable lines to your girl. This collection is a gorgeously illustrated, perfectly adapted graphic novel.

ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS. HULK HC

Written by Damon Lindelof. Illustrated by Leinil Francis Yu.

This title lost a lot of steam when it became seriously derailed after two issues. But all six issues have finally been released. Reading it in one volume will serve to remind readers just how epic and action packed this story is, and this hardcover will be the perfect way to do so.

WOLVERINE: OLD MAN LOGAN HC

Written by Mark Millar. Illustrated by Steve McNiven. Cover by Steve McNiven. Variant cover by Michael Turner.

The bleak future of Wolverine (and the entire Marvel universe) as imagined by Mark Millar and his partner in crime, Steve McNiven is collected into this nifty hardcover, with a variant cover by the late Michael Turner.

X-MEN: ASGARDIAN WARS HC

Written by Chris Claremont. Illustrated by Paul Smith and Arthur Adams. Cover by Arthur Adams.

Back in his heyday as a writer, Claremont teamed up the X-Men, the New Mutants, and Alpha Flight and sent them off to Asgard to face off against the trickster god Loki. It still stands as one of his better stories, and the artwork of both Paul Smith and Art Adams stand the test of time and still look spectacular. It’s nice to see this story get the hardcover treatment it deserves.
