AFTERMATH:THE FOUR HORSEMEN. Good news, if you punch
pestilence really hard in the chin he goes down like a soccer player.
Check out Batman doing what Black Adam could not; kicking Death’s ass.
Oh, and Superman and Wonder Woman will be there for moral support.
52:
THE COVERS HC.
By JG Jones. One of the
most under-appreciated talents to ever draw comics, Pick up this
magnificent collection of his stunning paintings, all completed on a
weekly basis, or approximately 100 000 times faster then Travis Charest.
COUNTDOWN
TO ADVENTURE #1 by
Adam Beechen and Eddy Barrows. The continuing adventures of Animal
Man, Adam Strange and Starfire.
I’m thinking Animal Man invites Starfire to go swimming with dolphins in
a desperate attempt to get her in a bathing suit, and is then crushed to
find it’s less revealing then her regular uniform. Meanwhile Adam
Strange continues with his litigation against the Rocketeer and pursues
a doctorate leading to a conflict with his distant cousin Stephen.

ALL-NEW BOOSTER GOLD #1.
Written by Geoff Jones & Jeff Katz. Illustrated by Dan Jurgens.
Thanks to 52, Booster was elevated to a
status he’d never previously enjoyed, and now he receives his own
ongoing series. With the help of Rip Hunter, Booster will serve as a
secret protector of the multiverse, and this series promises to show us
all kinds of world-hopping, time-traveling fun from across the 52 worlds
of the DC universe.
What nobody realized was that Infinite Crisis was really just an attempt
by DC to make their second rate characters cool again. First they
brought you Blue Beetle, then the exciting minis for Martian Manhunter,
the All New Atom and the Metal Men (starting this month); but most
importantly the relaunch of everyone's favourite hero BOOSTER GOLD.
Everyone’s
favourite fame-seeking hero has his own ongoing series once again!
Spinning out from the events of 52, this new series has Booster and Rip
Hunter traveling through time, putting right what once went wrong. It’s
like Quantum Leap. But with superheroes.
Multiversal Cop
Does anyone really care?
Gold is the new black.
AMAZONS ATTACK
#5 & #6. Written by Will Pfeifer. Art and cover by Pete
Woods. That’s right; you get two issues of warrior women on the warpath
in August! Those Amazons have cut the head off the Lincoln Memorial,
toppled the Washington Monument, and sat in Archie Bunker’s chair at the
Smithsonian Institute. What will they do as this war comes to a close?
BLACK ADAM: THE DARK
AGE #1 of 8. Written by Peter Tomasi. Illustrated by Doug Mahnke. Variant Cover
by Alex Ross.
And you thought Hulk
was bad when he threw a tantrum.
Black Adam went nuts.
Dances with corpses at night.
“I kiss dead people.”
DR.
THIRTEEN: ARCHITECTURE & MORALITY TP. Written by Brian
Azzarello. Art and cover by Cliff Chiang. The backup story from Tales
of the Unexpected collected into a single trade paperback. This was an
incredibly awesome story featuring obscure characters such as Dr.
Thirteen, I… Vampire, Genius Jones, and the Primate Patrol (Nazi
gorillas!). As the comic world begins to get deconstructed, Dr.
Thirteen and his band of eclectic characters are targeted by The
Architects, the creators of their (DC) universe, as part of their war
against the Marvel Architects.
METAL
MEN #1 (of 8)
By Duncan Rouleau. A tip to all you
kids out there. IF you really want to write comics, stop studying Lit,
plot and character development. Skip creative writing, modern American
poetics and script writing; and learn to draw… or at the very least
trace. Don’t believe me check out the company o82con\ird tier
artists that Mr. Rouleau is joining at the writer’s desk. Chuck
(pronounced suck) Austin, Brian Micheal Bendis, Robert Liefield
(pronounced thief), and many more; I could go on, but you’d stop
reading.
‘Did you know that
mercury is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature?’ The
newly revamped Metal Men finally get their long awaited miniseries.
A fun new
miniseries spotlighting Doc Magnus and his famous creations, the Metal
Men. This one promise to have a little bit of everything in it, with
wonderful art that is perfectly suited for this eclectic group.
OUTSIDERS: FIVE OF

Yay, more weekly comics! My
Personal pick is the 4th week, drawn by Joshua Middleton
(Superman/Shazam, NYX) even if it does have one of my least favourite
heroes.

BATMAN ANNUAL #26: HEAD
OF THE DEMON. Written by Peter
Milligan. Illustrated by David Lopez. Cover by Tim Sale.
This year’s annual presents an epic tale providing
the definitive origin of one of Batman’s greatest foes, Ra’s al Ghul.
Annuals can be hit or miss, but this story and the creative team
involved promise to make this one worth getting.

lots of action, all beautifully rendered with stunning art.

THE
SPIRIT VOL.
1 HC. By Darwin Cooke. Another fine
example of creators who can write and draw equally well. The man who
brought you New Frontiers proves yet again that you don’ need to pull
Stan Lee out of the Spike TV freezer to do quality old school.
THE UN-MEN
By John Whalen and Mike
Hawthorne. Although I’m pretty
sure it’s call the un-men I like to picture it being the U N Men. Like
the United Nations, and it could be filled with Bendis-esque dialogue of
Kofi Annan and Bill Clinton discussing world politics, and trading pick
up lines.
CATWOMAN #70
Written by Will
Pfeifer. Illustrated by David Lopez & Alvaro Lopez. This one ties into
the Amazons Attacks miniseries, and begins a new story-line which should
provide an excellent place for new readers to jump onboard. It’s one of
DC's most consistently well written and well illustrated titles, and is
well worth a look.
FLASH: THE
FASTEST MAN ALIVE #15.
The relaunch of the
new Flash title last year got off on the wrong foot, but has been
picking up speed with new writer Marc Guggenheim. DC won’t say what
happens in this issue, but promises it will be one of the biggest
surprises of the year. Is it the return of Wally West, or perhaps even
Barry Allen? Pick this one up and find out.
This issue is part of what’s promised to
be an amazing and awesome story arc. The only thing is that DC isn’t
giving any sort of hint as to what it’s about. Maybe Captain America
will die again.
TEEN TITANS #50.
Written by Sean
McKeever, Geoff Johns, and Marv Wolfman. Illustrated by Randy Green,
Mike McKone, and George Perez. A special
over-sized anniversary issue, introducing the new creative team of Sean
McKeever & Randy Green, as well as back up stories from Geoff Johns &
Mike McKone and a reunion of the creative team of Marv Wolfman and
George Perez. A must for anyone who had ever liked the Teen Titans!
