ADVENTURES
COMICS #1
Written by
Geoff Johns. Illustrated by Francis Manapul / co-feature illustrated by
Clayton Henry. Covers by Francis Manapul.
Superboy
returns to the DCU and is doing so in his original title, Adventure
Comics! The recently returned Superboy (Conner Kent) heads for
Smallville to restart his life and, I guess, play with his dog. Geoff
Johns returns to writing the boy of steel, and rising superstar Francis
Manapul contributes some beautiful looking illustrations. Plus, an
appropriately ongoing co-feature starring a rotating cast from the
Legion of Superheroes.
BATGIRL #1
Written by
Bryan Q. Miller. Illustrated by Lee Garbett & Trevor Scott. Cover by
Phil Noto. 1/25 variant cover by J.G. Jones.
Okay, so
we don’t know who is underneath the mask as the new Batgirl, but much
like Red Robin, the answer to that mystery should be revealed to us in
short order. Is it original Batgirl Barbara Gordon, more recent Batgirl
Cassandra Cain, Spoiler, Squire, or someone entirely new? Miller is a
newcomer being given his big chance on this title, but Garbett & Scott’s
recent illustration work on OUTSIDERS was very good. And of course
there’s the very Adam Hughes-esque “good girl” cover by Phil Noto if
that helps you make your decision at all.
BATMAN
#689
Written by
Judd Winick. Illustrated by Mark Bagley and Rob Hunter.
Mark
Bagley continues his run on Batman, illustrating the hero’s attempts to
recapture all the escaped Arkham Asylum inmates. Also in this issue,
Two-Face begins his own bid for power while The Penguin tries to become
Gotham’s new crime boss.
BATMAN AND
ROBIN #3
Written by
Grant Morrison. Illustrated by Frank Quitely. 1/25 Variant cover by Tony
Daniel.
The new
Batman and Robin finish off their battle against Professor Pyg and the
Circus of Strange. Wait ... another circus? What is it with the new
Batman and circuses? It’s almost as if he came from a circus once. Oh.
Wait. He did.
BATMAN:
STREETS OF GOTHAM #3
Written by
Paul Dini / co-feature written by Marc Andreyko. Illustrated by Dustin
Nguyen / co-feature illustrated by George Jeanty & Karl Story. Cover by
Dustin Nguyen.
This great
new Bat-book continues exploring Gotham and how it has changed since the
disappearance of favourite son Bruce Wayne. Except Bruce Wayne has
returned, and the new Batman & Robin aren’t very happy about it! Plus,
the co-feature starring Manhunter continues the mystery of who killed
the former Gotham City DA.
DETECTIVE
COMICS #856
Written by
Greg Rucka. Illustrated by JH Williams III / co-feature illustrated by
Cully Hamner. Cover by JH Williams III.
“Elegy”
part 3 of 4 sees Batwoman team up with an unlikely ally to defeat Alice,
a fairytale themed villain. But Batwoman’s two worlds collide as Alice
also goes on to threaten Kate Kane’s father. The co-feature of this book
stars The Question.
GOTHAM
CITY SIRENS #3
Written by
Paul Dini. Illustrated by Guillem March. Cover by Guillem March.
Our three
sirens (don’t call them heroines) encounter the newly returned Bruce
Wayne, and realize they might be in big trouble.
BATMAN:
WIDENING GYRE #1 (of 6)
Written by
Kevin Smith. Illustrated by Walter Flanagan. Cover by Bill Sienkiewicz.
Batman
takes on a new masked vigilante in this series by famous movie creator
and infamous comic book creator Kevin Smith. The thought of Smith doing
6 issues doesn’t instil confidence, as Smith has proven time and again
that he takes his sweet ass time to deliver new scripts (GREEN ARROW,
DAREDEVIL, and BLACK CAT). Smith teams up with Flanagan (BATMAN:
CACOPHONY) once again to bring you “backdrop of romance, intrigue, and
geek-bait guest stars galore!"

BLACKEST NIGHT #2
Written by Geoff Johns. Illustrated by Ivan Reis
and Oclair Albert. 1/25 variant cover by Mauro
Cascioli.
DC’s big summer blockbuster continues as the
heroes of the DCU have to deal with even more
Black Lanterns turning up, which of course means
more resurrected dead heroes. Hmm ... could an
Army of Darkness crossover be far behind?
BLACKEST NIGHT: BATMAN #1 (of 3)
Written by Peter J. Tomasi. Illustrated by
Adrian Saef. Cover by Andy Kubert. 1/25 variant
cover by Bill Sienkiewicz.
The dead are rising all over the DC Universe and
the new Batman will have to confront ghosts of
his own. No, not Bruce Wayne Black Lantern
(because he’s not really dead), but Black
Lantern Flying Graysons. Um. Spoiler alert for
BATTLE FOR THE COWL, I guess. But hell, you're
all reading this on the internet, so I guess you
already know everything about everything.
Guest-starring Deadman, this 3-part mini is a
companion to the DCU event of the summer:
BLACKEST NIGHT!
BLACKEST NIGHT: SUPERMAN #1 (of 3)
Written by James Robinson. Illustrated by Eddy
Barrows. 1/25 variant cover by Shane Davis.
Superman Prime, now Black Lantern Superman, has
dug up Pa Kent and is unleashing him on an
unsuspecting Smallville. Um. Spoiler alert for
INFINITE CRISIS? And for, um, whatever comic Pa
Kent died in?
BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS #1 (of 3)
Written by J.T. Krul. Illustrated by Ed Benes
and Rob Hunter. 1/25 variant cover by Brian
Haberlin.
Wow, this should be awesome, because Teen Titans
die all the time. I think there are actually
more dead Titans than live ones. They should get
their own book: DEAD TITANS. Oh, and the
solicitation asks the question “How can Beast
Boy not lose his heart to Black Lantern Terra?”
Because she's a rotting corpse, dude. Quite
likely the only book all year featuring
superhero necrophilia, and if that’s not a
reason to pick up a book, nothing is.
GREEN LANTERN #45
Written by Geoff Johns. Illustrated by Doug
Mahnke & Christian Alamy.
Sinestro launches an assault on Zamoran, the
home world of the Star Sapphires, but is
interrupted by an attack by a group of Black
Lantern Sinestro Corps members. Also, John
Stewart comes face to face with Black Lantern
Katma Tui.
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #39
Written by Peter J. Tomasi. Illustrated by
Patrick Gleason & Rebecca Buchman.
Blackest Night hits OA as Black Lantern Rings
invade the Green Lantern crypts, resurrecting
all the dead corps members. Everyone clamouring
for the return of Ch’p just got their wish.
Cannot wait to see Black Lantern Ch’p vs. Dextar,
Red Lantern Cat of Rage, vs Green Lantern G’Nort.

The return

#4
Written by
Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray. Illustrated by Amanda Conner. Cover by
Amanda Conner. 1/10 variant cover by Guillem March.
This
excellent new series begins a new arc, providing you the perfect
opportunity to see how much fun this book is, and that it is not simply
about the title-character’s physical attributes. Power Girl versus three
sexy alien invaders looking to destroy the Earth. Yup, this title is
fun, and definitely worth checking out!
R.E.B.E.L.S. #7
Written by
Tony Bedard. Illustrated by Andy Clarke.
Space
Opera lives in the DCU as Vril Dox and his team struggle to continue the

Written by J. Michael Straczynski. Illustrated
by Tom Derenick. Cover by Jesus Saiz.
A new hero from the Archie/MLJ universe arrives
in the DC Universe. Robert Dickering was a Union
doctor during the Civil War who was hung for
treating an enemy soldier. But instead of dying
he was given a deal he couldn't refuse: to walk
the Earth forever, saving the lives of condemned
innocents like himself.
THE RED CIRCLE: INFERNO #1
Written by J. Michael Straczynski. Illustrated
by Greg Scott. Cover by Jesus Saiz.
A stranger was brought to the hospital with no
memory of his past, or how he could have
survived a bombing that killed hundreds of
people. But deep as that mystery is, it's
nothing compared to the fact that he can set
himself on fire and not die. And that when he's
on, um, FIRE, he looks nothing like the man he
is when not, you know, ON FIRE.
THE RED CIRCLE: THE SHIELD #1
Written by J. Michael Straczynski. Illustrated
by Scott McDaniel. Cover by Jesus Saiz.
Lieutenant Joe Higgins was dying in the dirt of
Afghanistan when they whisked him away to a

technology may be too much for Higgins to bear.
THE RED CIRCLE: THE WEB #1
Written by J. Michael Straczynski. Illustrated
by Roger Robinson. Cover by Jesus Saiz.

prick. So much so that he became the superhero
known as The Web just to show up his more
popular brother. But when something bad happens
to John's brother, he'll learn what it means to
be a hero. Instead of showing the world what it
means to be a jealous prick.

James Robinson. Illustrated by Javier Pina. Cover by Renato Guedes.
Annual
Alert! (if you're already subscribing to the series, YOU STILL NEED TO

of Daxam has long been shrouded in mystery. Now, thanks to Sodom Yat’s
stories over in GREEN LANTERN CORPS, more light has been shed on the
planet and its culture. This annual follows that trend as Mon-El is
given a chance to explore Daxam’s ancient history, making discoveries
about its role as a Kryptonian colony, its connection to the ancient
Mayans, and its bloody civil war. If you understand what any of that
means, this issue may interest you.

THE
SANDMAN: THE DREAM HUNTERS HC
Written by
Neil Gaiman. Adapted & illustrated by P. Craig Russell.
Here's
some good news for your illiterate ass: a comics adaptation of the prose
story that was previously illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. This comic was
made to “celebrate” the 20th Anniversary of THE SANDMAN, and
came about because DC Comics was too cheap to pay Neil Gaiman to write a
new story, so they thought, “Hey, let's reward the fans by reheating
some stale leftovers. They'll buy it anyways because comic nerds don't
have the ability to say No!”
