Aside from Fathom, Soulfire was Michael Turner’s other magnum opus that he wasn’t able to complete. Thankfully, J.T. Krul and Joe Benitez were able to step in after his death and complete the first volume, of which this is the second trade paperback. It is a masterpiece of fantasy, and should not be missed.

TRANSFORMERS: IRONHIDE #1

One of the most popular Autobots is getting his own miniseries. But wait… Ironhide’s dead, isn’t he? Yeah. Right.

METAL GEAR SOLID OMNIBUS

Written by KRIS OPRISKO & ALEX GARNER. Illustrated by ASHLEY WOOD.

The mucho wanted but out of print series finally gives fans a second chance to get it all in one slick volume. Finally, the entire Metal Gear Solid comic series is collected in one massive omnibus.  In the absence of a new game, this should help keep fans satisfied until the next one.  Many of you know that the metal gear solid series has a huge fan base, but when you throw Ashley Wood into the mix then that base grows and with good reason, these comics were freaking awesome telling stories from the first 2 games. Don’t take my word for it though and pick up a copy, see what all the fuss is about and who knows maybe you’ll end up buying the games.

ONI PRESS

RADICAL

EARP: SAINTS & SINNERS

Written by M. ZACHARY SHERMAN. Illustrated by MACK CHATER.

Radical, who does retellings so well , gives us a new series which is a modern day retelling of the story of legendary sheriff Wyatt Earp.  Whenever I think of Wyatt Earp, I think the movie TOMBSTONE and what an amazing piece of cinema it was, well Radical takes a different approach to the tale of Earp brining him to the near future. Radical has been doing a great job revamping old stories (ahem, Caliber) and trying new things so this one merits excitement. What tickles me the most is waiting to see what they did with Doc Holiday.

TOP SHELF

B.B. WOLF & THE THREE LP’S HC

Written by J.D. ARNOLD. Illustrated by RICH KOSLOWSKI.

Top Shelf brings us a blues up version of the classic fairy tale The Three little pigs, with the big bad wolf as a farmer by day and blues musician by night. I love this spin on the story, making the wolf the protagonist and the pigs the villains, plus I just love the blues in general. Try something different this month, something with soul and honesty, hell it might even make you feel like a kid again.

That alone will make me pick up this book, Arcudi has a knack for telling stories about people and knows how to make them engaging and will challenge you when he can. Coupled with beautiful art, this is a story for those who like to see Superheroes in a different sort of tale than simply the traditional. I’m really looking forward to this.

ASTONISHING!

The industry’s top creators join forces with the world’s most popular super-heroes to launch the all-new Astonishing line. First up:

ASTONISHING SPIDER-MAN/WOLVERINE #1

Written by Jason Aaron  Illustrated by Adam Kubert

The X-Men have some company in the “Astonishing” line as Spider-man swings by to team up with Wolverine in this all new on-going series starring Marvel’s most popular characters.  Adam Kubert returns the MU and teams up with wolverine writer-extraordinaire Jason Aaron to bring you the team-up of wolverine and spider-man in their first major series ever! This will be cool, sure, but really? Another title for Spider-man and Wolverine…it’s like giving another title to Deadpool…wait how many does he have now?

 ASTONISHING X-MEN: XENOGENESIS #1 OF 5

So let me get this straight…we cancel the ongoing series Astonishing X-Men written by Warren Ellis to give us a mini-series titled Astonishing X-Men written by Warren Ellis…sure okay I get it…it is under the new Astonishing line…but yeah we wouldn’t have known that aside from it’s title…The latest story arc of Warren Ellis’ Astonishing X-Men series sees a new artist join the master storyteller in the form of Kaare Andrews, he of the excellent Spider-man Reign.

THE HEROIC AGE IS HERE!

AVENGERS #1

Written by Brian Michael Bendis Illustrated by John Romita Jr

The Avengers are back. That’s right, not “New” or “Mighty” or “Dark” or whatever. This is the real thing, folks, and I for one am quite excited.  Avengers #1 kicks off a new era in Marvel history as it did back in the 60s… Don’t worry, the age of heroes books will still fit in current age bags and boards… more importantly age of heroes books feature the best of the Marvel Universe’s vast stable of characters back on their fancy pedastles protecting the innocents of New York City even though they lack the support of the new Mayor, one Honourable Mr J. Jonah Jameson. This is a new Avengers team…but who will answer the call…I’m sure you can guess with all those teasers on the net but with a few more new Avengers titles coming out…anything can happen!

SECRET AVENGERS #1

Written by Ed Brubaker Illustrated by Mike Deodato Jr.

A new ongoing series! This title is still shrouded in mystery with regards to the line-up, but one important player has been revealed: Ed Brubaker. Yes, THAT Ed Brubaker. The one who made Captain America cool again. Who are the Secret Avengers? Are they a covert team of heroes working the darkest corners of the globe to stop a disaster? …We’re not telling you a thing… it’s a freaking secret, and we at Elfsar keep secrets, also, Marvel is being rather coy and we at Elfsar are fairly lazy detectives sometimes.

PRINCE OF POWER # 1

Written by Fred Van Lente Illustrated by Greg Pak

Amadeus Cho has become the new Hercules, which is about as good an idea as giving the Old Hercules his own book… which is exactly why I will give this book a chance, after all Greg Pak made champagne out of what should have been guaranteed septic fluid last time. Who know, maybe a Korean-American adolescent half Olympian God will be the most relatable hero since that spider bit that nerdy kid.

AFTER THE FALL, WORLD WAR HULKS BEGINS!

INCREDIBLE HULK #609

Written by Greg Pak Illustrated by Paul Pelletier

Everything that Banner knows has turned up-side down…and everything he desires may only be a heartbeat away…

HULK #22

Written by Jeph Loeb Illustrated by Ed McGuinness

The fall is over. Red Hulk and Banner have failed…now their worst nightmares have come a reality…will they die fighting M.O.D.O.K. and his army of Hulks or die by the hands of the Hulked-Out Heroes?  Red Hulk is so unstoppable that not even vastly reduced readership and growing fan distain can bring his reign to an end… he’s like the Kardashian Sister of the Marvel Universe, no one knows where he came from, no one is a fan and yet for some reason he keeps getting on the cover every freaking month!!! prompting Elfsar's monthly anti Red Hulk Tirade.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #37

Written by Karl Kesel and Kurt Busiek. Illustrated by Paulo Siqueira and Patrick Ollife.

Annuals are usually reserved for special stories, and this one is no different as we bear witness to the very first meeting between Spidey and Captain America.

X-MEN ORIGINS: EMMA FROST #1

Written by Velerie D’orazio. Illustrated by Karl Moline.

Emma Frost, the erstwhile White Queen, has become one of the most enigmatic and, dare I say it, beloved X-Men in recent times. Here’s your chance to catch a glimpse of just how she came to be.

DARK TOWER THE GUNSLINGER BORN TP

Written by PETER DAVID & ROBIN FURTH. Illustrated by JAE LEE & RICHARD ISANOVE.

FINALLY! That’s all I have to say. I’ve been waiting for these books to be available in softcover forever to get my shot at reading them. I’m sure I’m not the only one out there who has been waiting but the publishing gods have answered our prayers. The critically acclaimed series now widens its audience just that much more. If you like Stephen King, his Dark Tower Series, Westerns, or simply some BEAUTIFUL art from Jae Lee, then jump on the bandwagon, cause it’s sure to be a great ride.

WAR OF KINGS TP

Written by DAN ABNETT & ANDY LANNING. Illustrated by PAUL PELLETIER.

The writing duo of DnA took the marvel cosmic universe by storm and have continually left their mark on it, and for good reason, they tell a hell of a yarn. War of kings is as epic as it gets, and lays down the ground work for what is currently going on in Cosmic Marvel. See Vulcan and the Shiar empire go head to head with Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans, and the Kree empire, just typing that gives me goose bumps. Enjoy an epic and get hooked for the future.

X-MEN PSYLOCKE TP

Written by CHRISTOPHER YOST. Illustrated by HARVEY TOLIBAO.

Beautiful art for one of the sexiest and most dangerous X-characters ever. That alone makes this a seller, take a tale filled with ninja action plus a reprinting of the 3 issue Chris Claremont/Jim Lee story that made Psylocke the badass she is today and this is one helluva package. This series sold out so fast, now’s your chance to see what the fuss was all about.

THOR LATVERIAN PROMETHEUS TP

Written by KIERON GILLEN, KELLY SUE DECONNICK, STAN LEE & CHRIS GIARRUSSO. Illustrated by BILLY TAN, RYAN STEGMAN, DAVID AJA & CHRIS GIARRUSSO.

I was one of those guys who dropped this book after JMS left, because I didn’t think it could keep that level of quality. I was wrong. Kieron Gillen continues the story JMS left for him and does it so smoothly that you would never tell the difference. Do yourself a favor and continue the story, because it’s a great one filled with angry gods, some epic battles and of course DOOM vs. Asgard.

BOWEN WARRIORS THREE 3-PACK MINI BUSTS

If you own a Thor how can you not have the warriors three to go along with him? Brought to you by Bowen is this great 3 pack of friends, adventurers and gods. Put them up on display and I’m sure you will hear godlike bickering from the mantle.

BOWEN BLACK CAT STATUE

This is one sexy rendition of everyone’s favorite femme fatale from the Spidey side of things. Sultry, sexy, and highly collectible Bowen has outdone themselves with this one and it is a great piece to add to the collection.

KOTOBUKIYA IRON MAN MARK IV FINE ART STATUE

The statue KOTO put out from the first movie is till one of the best Iron Man statues ever. If history is any indicator this one will live up to if not surpass the quality of the first, taking the new design for the iron man costume which brings it closer to the comics. If you’re an Iron Man fan or just looking for the most geekily badass night light ever then this is sure to pique your interest.

PHOENIX AND DARK PHOENIX – MARVEL COMICS BISHOUJO STATUE

Jean Grey and the Phoenix force get the Bishoujo treatment!  A Kotobukiya Japanese import following in the footsteps of Rogue, Black Widow, and the Scarlet Witch!  Both statues are constructed of high-quality pvc plastic and stand approx 9 inches tall (1/8 scale with the other Marvel-Bishoujo statues)

DOCTOR WHO: THE END OF TIME – JOURNAL AND RING SET

One thing I’ve learned working here is that we have many a doctor who fan, and unfortunately because it’s not that well promoted jump onto the band wagon a little late for the quick sell out items that they offer for the show. Well I am informing you ahead of time that the doctors journal complete with ring will be coming to you favorite comic shop soon. Pre Order a set for yourself today so you don’t miss out!

DEVIL MAY CRY 4 PLAY ARTS ACTION FIGURES

It seemed to me like a no brainer that someone would make figures for the awesome game that is Devil May Cry, but I saw nothing that wasn’t a statue or something from Japan that was ridiculously difficult to get until today. Play arts will be releasing figures for both Dante and Nero from the 4th game.

VOLTRON VEHICLE VINYL FIGURE

Nostalgic for some Defender of the Universe goodness? Sate your hunger by picking up this 9 inch vinyl figure of the “other” Voltron!

iPHONE APP MAGNETS

Because you love your iphone that much, and mac loves it when you love them, you can now make your refrigerator, which hopefully is a rounded rectangle too, look like your iphone and even reorganize your apps much like you would in life. See, it’s like art imitating life imitating art.

IRON MAN BUST BANK

These have been a huge success due to the ridiculously well sculpted pieces they are. Time for some iron man, and just in time for the movie. Make sure you get yours quick, because even piggy banks go out of print.

HEART CORE-M T-SHIRT

Simply “THE” Iron man shirt in my opinion. Black with the arc reactor Tony Stark has in his chest, top center on the shirt. The message comes across, and you can profess your geektasticness and have people actually know what it is your means. Don’t you love the power of the movies?

GL: KYLE RAYNER SYMBOL T-SHIRT

Show some love for everybody’s OTHER favourite Green Lantern

THE BIG BANG THEORY: “THE FRIENDSHIP ALGORITHM” WHITE T-SHIRT

How could you not love a shirt based on one of the best shows out there?

I HEART STEAMPUNK BROWN T-SHIRT

There is many a steam punk fan out there and now you can profess your love for the “genre” with this rocking shirt that of course has a heart made out of parts releasing a little bit of steam. Classy ain’t it?
