If you’re a fan of end of world movies such as I AM LEGEND or WATERWORLD, this might be the book for you. Fresh off his crowd pleasing appearance in the X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE movie, the character who as recently as last year couldn’t even support a team-up book with Cable, beginning this month Deadpool gets his second ongoing series. The first arc is 6 issues of mayhem that could only appear in a Deadpool story, as Marvel’s mouthiest mercenary is dispatched to the Savage Land to retrieve the head of his Zombieverse counterpart and return it whence it came. This will be the only book to ever feature Cavemen, Assassins, Zombies, Dinosaurs, Women in Loin Cloths, a man named Bong, and International Terrorists. It’s like a smorgasbord of campy action!!!!! Who doesn’t love a smorgasbord?

This over-sized issue has the story that promises to finally reveal the identity of the annoying Red Hulk, guest-starring appearances by Spider-Man and She-Hulk, and also contains a reprint of Hulk: Gray #1. And if we’re really lucky, it might finally feature Jeph Loeb hitting the road and leaving behind all writing materials and forms of communication. And maybe he’ll take Chris Claremont with him when he goes.

Yes, the awesomeness that was IMMORTAL IRON-FIST is no more, but thankfully we now have five months of almost-as-awesomeness in the form of a limited series focusing on the kick-ass Immortal Weapons! This month Jason Aaron brings us the history of Fat Cobra!

KID COLT #1 (of 1)

Written by Tom DeFalco. Illustrated by Rick Burchett.

I absolutely love the resurgence of Westerns. This series provides yet another example of how cowboys are back in style, as one of the originals gets another shot (pun intended) and finds himself back in the saddle again (another intended pun). Blaine Cole and Everett Hawkmoor team up to battle a corrupt sheriff and a deadly bounty hunter in a book that you should definitely give a shot (3rd pun).

MARVEL DIVAS #1

Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Illustrated by Tonci Zonjic. Cover by J. Scott Campbell.

Bugger the Fantastic Four, this is the “Femtastic” four, as Blackcat, Hellcat, Firestar and Photon band together to bring you an honest look at the glamorous life of a Superheroin. Think Sex and the City meets ANTM (and if you know what that stands for you either lost control of the remote to your girlfriend or have a rather pronounced feminine side). While I cannot attest for the quality of this series, I can promise it will at least be nothing like any other book in the Marvel stables.

REBORN #1 (of 5)

Written by Ed Brubaker. Illustrated by Bryan Hitch.

Marvel is once against keeping secrets from us, forcing us to wait to find out what this one is about. Who is being reborn? The hints seem to suggest it might be Steve Rogers, or at least somehow tied to Captain America. If so, it’s too bad they didn’t bring him back in Brubaker’s consistently awesome Cap book. But then, who knows? Maybe it's Jubilee. Is Jubilee even dead? She oughtta be. Maybe they'll kill her in Reborn. Whoever it is, with Brubaker & Hitch as the creative team, it should be worth the wait.

SCOURGE OF THE GODS – THE FALL #1 (of 3)

Written by Valrie Mangin. Illustrated by Aleksa Gajic.

Fans still mourning the loss of BSG may want to consider this Soleil imprint import focusing on a battle between good and evil, as the Gods of Roman Lore, battle for supremacy of the Universe, all while railing against a destiny that might have predetermined everything centuries before.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #600

Written by Dan Slott, with Stan Lee, and others. Illustrated by John Romita Jr., Marcos Martin, Mario Alberti, and others. 50/50 covers by John Romita Jr. & Alex Ross.

Unlike this month’s INCREDIBLE HULK, and the recent THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA anniversary issues, Spidey’s title reverted to the original “legacy” numbering in time for issue 500, and has jumped forward rather quickly thanks to the three times a month publishing schedule it has now adopted. However, that doesn’t take away from the significance of this month’s anniversary issue. There’s a whole bunch of fantastic stuff contained in the 100+ pages of all new (all new! meaning no reprints!) material, but the really important part is the return of Doc Ock! Almost everyone reading comics today has thumbed through a Spider title at some point, and this is the perfect chance to do it again.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #36

Written by Marc Guggenheim. Illustrated by Patrick Olliffe.

Annual Alert! (if you're already subscribing to the series, YOU STILL NEED TO ORDER THIS TO RECEIVE YOUR DISCOUNT!)

Spidey’s on the way to a wedding (no, it’s not his), and super-powered mayhem ensues.

ULTIMATUM: FANTASTIC FOUR REQUIEM #1 (of 1)

Written by Joe Pokatski. Illustrated by Robert Atkins.

This one-shot wraps everything up for the Ultimate Fantastic Four in the aftermath of ULTIMATUM. What will become of the Ultimate first family? Read this and find out.

ULTIMATUM: SPIDER-MAN REQUIEM #2 (of 2)

Written by Brian Michael Bendis. Illustrated by Mark Bagley & Stuart Immonen.

This is the second of two issues wrapping up all of the loose ends of the first volume of Ultimate Spider-Man, clearing the way for the newly revamped, post-ULTIMATUM, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man starting soon.

ULTIMATUM: X-MEN REQUIEM #1 (of 1)

Written by Aron E. Coleite. Illustrated by Ben Oliver.

Another casualty of ULTIMATUM, this one-shot addresses all of the remaining questions regarding everyone’s favourite Ultimate mutants.

USA COMICS 70TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1

Written by John Arcudi. Illustrated by Steve Ellis.

I personally think this is the most enticing book yet in the 70th anniversary run off Marvel has been churning out. A long forgotten character who makes his hay by slaughtering Nazi scum. The Punisher of World War II tears through the Nazi ranks like a bayonet through butter, as he quietly caries out his secret mission, tracking a reporter on a heavily armed train. But the tipping point for me is Arcudi, one of the most under appreciated writers in comics.

WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #17

Written by Peter David. Illustrated by Ronan Cliquet.

Among Wolverine’s many aliases is the mysterious man of mystery known as Patch. And here he is, with Kitty Pryde along for the ride!

X-FACTOR #46

Written by Peter David. Illustrated by Valentine De Landro.

This book is awesome! How awesome? Very awesome! It’s hands-down one of the best comic books being published by anyone right now, and you really, REALLY should be reading it!

DARK X-MEN: THE BEGINNING #1 & #2 (of 3)

Written by Paul Cornell, James Asmus, and others. Illustrated by Humberto Ramos, and others.

This three issue series spotlights the new Dark X-Men, featuring three characters in each issue. Who are the Dark X-Men, you ask? Well, just looking at the cover, there's Namor, Dark Wolverine, Emma Frost, Cloak & Dagger, and Mimic. Seems pretty obvious. The first two issues (out this month, with #3 wrapping it all up next month) showcase Emma Frost (that two-timing bitch), Mimic, Cloak & Dagger, Daken, Weapon X, and Dark Beast (how exactly is he still around from AGE OF APOCALYPSE?!?). This is a must for anyone reading Fraction’s kick-ass UNCANNY X-MEN run, or fans of DARK REIGN.

UNCANNY X-MEN #513

Written by Matt Fraction. Illustrated by Terry Dodson.

“Utopia” part 2. This issue picks up where last month’s DARK AVENGERS / UNCANNY X-MEN one-shot left off, and spins directly into this month’s issue of DARK AVENGERS.

UNCANNY X-MEN FIRST CLASS #1 (of 8)

Written by Scott Gray. Illustrated by Roger Cruz.

The first set of X-Men First Class books were utterly charming in the way they took a look at a more innocent time in the first X-Men’s lives. Expect more nostalgic greatness in a series that now takes a look at the second wave of X-Men, including Colossus, Wolverine, and the rest.

X-MEN LEGACY #226

Written by Mike Carey. Illustrated by Dustin Weaver.

Although not spinning directly out of the “Utopia” story in DARK AVENGERS & UNCANNY X-MEN, this issue ties-in closely, and also sets up the next stage of this excellent title.

MEPHISTO VS. PREMIERE HC

Written by Al Milgrom. Illustrated by John Buscema.

Before he went around undoing marriages, Mephisto took on Marvel’s top teams in epic clashes for the heroes’ souls. It’s the devil vs The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, The X-Men, and X-Factor.

SPIDER-MAN: SPIDER-MAN AND THE HUMAN TORCH HC

Written by Dan Slott. Illustrated by Ty Templeton.

There was a time when the Marvel U was uncluttered by Skrulls or Norman Osborne or Civil Wars. It was a time of lighthearted adventure and was the setting of one of the best dynamic duos this side of Batman and Robin: Spidey and Torch! Well, this book features some old school tales set in those years, sure to tug on anyone’s nostalgic heartstrings.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY JMS ULTIMATE COLLECTION BOOK ONE TPB

Written by J. Michael Straczynski. Illustrated by John Romita Jr.

Many people look to JMS’ run on Amazing Spider-Man as one of the defining runs of this generation, and rightly so. Filled with stories ranging from the exploration of the spider totems to the special September 11 issue, this book is just the start of a truly epic adventure.
