DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT

SUPERPOWERS #0     HOT PICK!

START READING HERE!

Written by Alex Ross & Jim Krueger.  Illustrated by Stephen Sadowski & Doug Klauba.

Alex Ross never passes up an opportunity to make forty year old men wearing spandex look creepy and gross.  But love him or hate him, Alex Ross loves to examine the superhero mythos, and what makes these figures special.  In this new series he takes several existing characters (all long out of print, and now in the public domain) and spins a new tale of the infancy of the “heroic age”.  Alex Ross reinvents these classic characters, and explains why these heroes disappeared after World War II and what they are up to now.  Issue #0 is 40 pages for a discount price and features two interconnecting covers by Alex Ross.

This issue is only $1.00  (that's only $2.00 for those who want both covers) This is going to be fully painted on top of the most awesome pencils our good friend Stephen Sadoswki has produced.  He came by on 24 hour comic book day and let us see the whole issue.  Also, for this issue you will find a few Vancouver comic book retailers featured as characters.    WHICH IS AWESOME!   I Have doubled my orders for this as I know hands down this is going to be on Wizards Top ten list!

This is our NUMBER ONE PICK OF THE MONTH ORDER IT NOW!

SPIKE: SHADOW PUPPETS TP

Written by Brian Lynch.  Illustrated by Franco Urru.

The creative team behind the new “Angel: Season 6” comics got the job of working with Joss Whedon by making kick-ass Spike comics.  In this book, Spike & Lorne travel to Tokyo to fight Smile Time, the demon-infested puppet show.  Ninja puppets!  How awesome is that!?!  In case you didn’t pick up this story as it came out, here’s the collected edition of the fun Spike tale that impressed Joss Whedon so much that he handed Lynch & Urru the creative reigns for the Angel series.

 VIRGIN

 JENNA JAMESON’S SHADOW HUNTER #0

Written by Christina Z.  Illustrated by Mukesh Singh.  Cover by Greg Land.

There are SO many things we could say about this series, but really, we thought we’d do our best to behave and let it speak for itself.  However, we can’t resist pointing out that for once in his career, Greg Land didn’t have to disguise where his source material came from.

DARK HORSE COMICS HIGHLIGHTS

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #9

Written by Brian K. Vaughan.  Art by Georges Jeanty, Andy Owens and Dave Stewart.  Covers by Jo Chen and Jeanty.

Vaughan wraps up his run with this issue.  It also features two interesting covers: One has Faith and Giles dressed as the Avengers (the British spies, not the super-heroes), while the other has Faith naked, and on fire.  We’re sure there’s a joke in there somewhere about her looking hot.

THE END LEAGUE #1

START READING HERE!

Written by Rick Remiender.  Illustrated by Mat Broome.  Cover by Wendy Broome.

This new ongoing series has what sounds like a good concept with a lot of very strong potential.  The last remaining superheroes on Earth must undertake a harrowing quest to find the Hammer of Thor and save all humanity.  Dark Horse is telling us this is like a Lord of the Rings version of superheroes.  So: two homoerotic midgets in spandex will take a long walk together while a bunch of other bearded superheroes scream at hordes of orcs.  The effeminate elf superhero will then feature in a spinoff pirate comic and try and convince the world that he’s really manly.  So, perhaps the “Lord of the Rings” meets “Watchmen” hype isn’t a good idea, but regardless of how Dark Horse is spinning this series, it’s a good concept with a very good creative team, so it is definitely worth checking out.

INDIANA JONES OMNIBUS VOL 1 TP

Written & Illustrated by various talented folks

In case you somehow hadn’t heard, there will be a new Indy movie released next summer.  “Omnibus” is still a cooler title than “Queen of the Crystal Skull” or whatever the new movie is called.  Regardless of the title, pick this up and read some of Indy’s best comic book adventures, released by Dark Horse early enough so as not to get lost in the marketing tidal wave that is sure to come.

IT ATE BILLY ON CHRISTMAS

Written by Roman Dirge.  Art by Steven Daily.

A twisted holiday tale as could only be told by Roman ‘Lenore’ Dirge.  Little Lumie’s mean ol’ brother has just been eaten by a monster so she may be able to celebrate her happiest Christmas ever, as long as she can keep the monster in check that is.

STAR WARS REBELLION #11

START READING HERE!

BATLASH #1

Written by Peter Brandvold & Sergio Aragones.  Illustrated by John Severin.  Cover by Walt Simonson.  Variant cover by Severin.

Sometime, when something goes big, like, for instance, Westerns, there is a sudden flood of that genre on the market, until saturation occurs leading to the eventual implosion of the demand, and mass cancellations.  For reference, see: Zombies, Epics, and Children’s books about magical orphans slated to overcome evil.  Now we’re not suggesting that this new six-part miniseries is some terrible shadow of better books; after all, sometimes the last person into the pool is the cutest girl at the party … however, cute or not, the pool is still full.  Regardless, Bat Lash creator Sergio Aragones teams up with Western novelist Brandvold to bring you the story of Mr. Lash’s origin.

BATMAN: The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul

Written by Dwayne McDuffie.  Illustrated by Joe Benitez.

It might just be me, but wasn’t DC celebrating a return of the Flash last month…. And three months prior, and during Crisis. Couldn’t they at least be a little original and hype a different Speedster “Max Mercury Marathon Month” would be great.

This year he’s had a video game and a mini-series (and a movie that’s been stuck in development), but finally the Darkness has an ongoing series once again.  This story spins out of the events of the First Born cross-over, setting the character in a whole new direction.  Top Cow has been plagued by delays, but if they can get this book out on time, it should be worth reading.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #546 - #548

START READING HERE!

Written by Dan Slott.  Illustrated by Steve McNiven.

Now your only source for Spider-Man!  This will either be three times the Spidey goodness, or three times late.  Either way, this is a potentially exciting new direction for the web-head.  The first creative team will feature the intelligent and funny writing of Slott, and the immense talent (along with his immense ego) of McNiven will ensure, if nothing else that this book will be a visual spectacle.  And after all the muck that Spider-Man’s been through, his new status quo starts here.

ASTONISHING X-MEN #24

Written by Joss Whedon.  Illustrated by John Cassaday.

This is the end!  Yes that’s right, Cassaday and Whedon are finally releasing their final issue of this always fantastic - and always late - title.  Sadly, they are not the only ones who won’t be returning for issue #25, as one of the team will not survive the epic conclusion.

AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #8

START READING HERE!

Written by Dan Slott.  Illustrated by Stefano Caselli

The Irredeemable Giant-Man joins the team!  That’s all you really need to know, so just buy this book already.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #33

Written by Ed Brubaker.  Illustrated by Steve Epting.

“Buckey” (a.k.a. The Winter Soldier) finally gets to confront the man he holds responsible for Cap’s Death, in the newest issue of the best book not featuring the title character. Marvel promises the end of this issue will shock you as much as issue #25, although that could possibly be their tendency to over-hype things.

GIANT SIZE-AVENGERS SPECIAL #1

Written & illustrated various.  Cover by Bryan Hitch.

The Avengers recall never-before-seen stories from their past, back when they all got along.

HULK vs. FIN FANG FOOM #1 (of 1)

Written by Peter David.   Illustrated by … well, no one is drawing this yet; if you’re not busy, give Marvel a call.  Cover by Jim Cheung.

This does what it says on the box.  Tying into absolutely nothing, this slugfest promises to bleed green. It’s the green goliath vs. a big angry dragon.  But nothing will beat Fin Fang Foom vs. Nextwave.

IMMORTAL IRON FIST #12

Written by Matt Fraction & Ed Brubaker.  Illustrated by David Aja & Roy Allan Martinez.

We’re running out of ways to explain to you how fan-freakin’-tastic this series is!  It’s got crazy-cool, over the top, mystic kung-fu action, culminating in the showdown of all kung-fu showdowns.  All that and a top notch, consistently excellent creative team.  What else do you need from a title?!?  What will it take to satisfy you?!?

INCREDIBLE HULK #113

Written by Greg Pak & Fred Van Lente.  Illustrated by Khoi Pham.

Marvel won’t reveal anything about this story arc, but our suggestion is to make this a dialogue driven issue, where the Hulk sits in a Denny’s talking to a petrified waitress while trying to eat away his sorrows.  Think about it, it would work.  “Hulk cry”, he could say.  And then slowly the girl could come to sympathize with him, only to have the police show up and piss him, which would lead to the inevitable smashings.  However, it’s likely Marvel will go in a different direction.

MARVEL HOLIDAY SPECIAL #1

Written & Illustrated by various.

Spiderman takes on the toughest task of his life. So important, so intense, that he has to go to Wolverine for help. Can these two heroes save Christmas? Or will aunt May’s Christmas cake go undelivered?... okay I admit, I may have overhyped that a bit.

THE ORDER #6

Written by Matt Fraction.  Illustrated by Barry Kitson.

Just to clarify, this is the sixth issue of one of the best sleeper “ongoing” series out there.  Great writing and fantastic art.  All it needs is a little bit of love.

SPIDERMAN: SWING SHIFT DIRECTOR’S CUT

Written by Dan Slott.  Illustrated by Phil Jiminez.

Dan Slot (Avengers Innitiative) and Phil Jiminez (a.k.a. “the next Perez” after his work on Infinite Crisis) give you this exciting glimpse at what will be one of the best Spidey runs by any creative team in recent years … yes, it might be over-hyping, but Marvel tends to do that.  You’ll have to read it to find out.

ULTIMATE IRON MAN II #1 (of 4)

START READING HERE!

Written by Orson Scott Card.  Illustrated by Pasqual Ferry.  Variant cover by Gabriele Dell’Otto.

The origin of Ultimate Iron Man continues, as Sci-Fi writer Card delves deeper into the untold history of Ultimate Tony Stark.  Theoretically this will not be late … of course, theoretically communism works.

ULTIMATES 3 #1 (of 5)

START READING HERE!

Written by Jeph Loeb.  Illustrated by Joe Madureira & Christian Lichtner.

So, who thinks this is going to get past issue #2?  Releasing Ultimates 3 AFTER Halo 3 seems like poor planning on Marvel’s part.  This issue features 2 exciting covers; one with a top notch shot of the ultimates, and one with the stupidest looking Sabertooth ever.  Either way, this highly anticipated title will not disappoint, and as an added bonus, this will likely be the first story arc Joe Mad actually finishes since the early 90’s.  Events from this story will lead into the “Ultimate Universe” shattering events of Ultimatum next year.

WHAT IF? CIVIL WAR

Written by Ed Brubaker, Kevin Grevioux, & Christos Gage.  Illustrated by Marko Djurdjevic, Gustavo & Harvey Tolibao.  Cover by Marv Silvestri / wrap cover by Marko Djurdjevic.

What If…Civil War wasn’t a giant pile of bear crap?  What If… Civil War didn’t rob you of ten weeks worth of your hard-earned comics money?  What If… the only thing this comic is good for is interior art by stunning cover artist Marko Djurdjevic?
