WARREN ELLIS' FRANKENSTEIN'S WOMB GN

Written by Warren Ellis.  Illustrated by Marek Oleksicki.

Frankenstein totally doesn't wear any condoms.

ABSOLUTION #0 (of 6)

Written by Christos Gage.  Illustrated by Roberto Viacava.  Covers by Jacen Burrows & Juan Jose Ryp.

Christos Gage is suddenly writing everything under the sun, having just come off runs of STORMWATCH PHD, AVENGERS INITIATIVE and THUNDERBOLTS.  And now he asks what happens when you push a hero to the brink?  In this new series, Policeman John Dusk gets tired of watching the same criminals go in and out of jail so he just decides to put on a mask and start killing them.  Kind of like JUDGE DREDD meets BATMAN.  Gage is a pretty decent writer, so check this out, as well as his new WILDCATS book, where Jim Lee's old Image team is trapped on a post-apocalyptic hell-planet.

STATION TP

Written by Johanna Stokes.  Illustrated by Leno Carvalho.

If you loved WHITEOUT, you’ll love this take on the ultimate locked-door mystery.  Onboard the International Space Station, where escape is impossible, one astronaut has targeted the others for death.

DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT

THE DEATH-DEFYING DEVIL #1

Written by Joe Casey & Alex Ross.  Illustrated by Edgar Salazer.

Some kind of spinoff from Alex Ross's latest Silver Age wankfest, I think, but Joe Casey is a talented writer (much more talented than Ross, anyway) and so this might be worth checking out.

TERMINATOR: REVOLUTION #1

Written by Simon Furman.  Illustrated by Lui Antonio.  Covers by Richard Isanove & Stjepan Sejic.

With the popularity of the Terminator franchise gaining momentum once again with the new television series, and the upcoming first movie in a trilogy starring Christian “I’m Batman” Bale, Revolution tells a story set in the dark future of the terminators and the present day where John Connor and his mother Sarah are on the run from enemies sent against them from the future.

THE COMPLETE JUST A PILGRIM HC

Written by Garth Ennis.  Illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra.  Cover by Mark Texeira.

I've never read it, but it's Garth Ennis, so it's bound to be pretty decent at least.  Wasn't this one of the old Wizard comics?

FANFARE / PONENT MON

THE QUEST FOR THE MISSING GIRL GN

Written & illustrated by Jiro Taniguchi.

Jiro Taniguchi is one of my all-time favourite Japanese creators, his best work being Viz's BENKEI IN NEW YORK.  This is the story about a man who descends from his refuge in the Himalayas to find the daughter of his dead best friend, to fulfill the promise he made years ago, but of course the city is way more sinister than the mountains, and so all he finds is trouble.  You have to see the way this guy lays out a page to believe it.

HERO INITIATIVE

HULK 100 PROJECT

Illustrated by various.

If you’re like me and you like pretty pictures, then you loved the SPIDER-MAN 100 project last year and will be equally stoked for this collection of artist renditions of the Green Goliath.

BIRDS OF PREY #125

Written by Tony Bedard.  Illustrated by Scott McDaniel & Andy Owens.

BOOSTER GOLD #15

Start reading here!

Written by Dan Jurgens.  Illustrated by Dab Jurgens & Norm Rapmund.

He created him, he drew him, and now he’s writing him once again.  A new arc begins, brought to you by the one man, everything old is new again, creative “team” of Dan Jurgens.  This series has been fantastic since it relaunched last year, and should only get better from here on.

FINAL CRISIS: SECRET FILES #1

Written by Grant Morrison & Peter J. Tomasi.  Illustrated by Frank Quitely & various.

An issue that promises to shed light on all of the clever plot points and quirky twists you missed in the main FINAL CRISIS series.

Also featuring the reunion of Morrison and his uber artists collaborator Frank Quietly (ALL STAR SUPERMAN, NEW X-MEN, WE3).

GREEN ARROW / BLACK CANARY #15

Written by Andrew Kreisberg.  Illustrated by Mike Norton & John Floyd.

The series takes a new direction as new writer Kreisberg hops on board.  Separating the lovers from the sidekicks, he pits the Emerald Archer and the High-pitched Hottie against a new and dangerous villain.  Can Ollie get his head in the game, or will he be too distracted by reflections on the life he’s led.

GREEN LANTERN #37

Written by Geoff Johns.  Illustrated by Ivan Reis & Oclair Albert.

“Rage of the Red Lanterns” continues as the dreaded “Blackest Night” approaches.

This issue sees Hal Jordan uncovering some of the truths about Atroticus’ powers.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #31

Written by Peter J. Tomasi.  Illustrated by Patrick Gleason & Drew Geraci.

While Hal’s off battling some rage issues, the Corps deals with love, via the increasingly more powerful Star Sapphires.  As a result, a new law is burned into the book of OA.  The Green Lanterns haven’t really liked the last few new laws, so here’s guessing they won’t like this new one much either.

LEGION OF SUPERHEROES #49

Written by Jim Shooter.  Illustrated by Francis Manapul & Livesay.

The cosmic soap-opera that is the Legion continues (at least for one more issue), as Timber Wolf goes berserk, Lightning Lad seeks out some presidential comfort, and Phantom Girl is seriously injured.  One more issue after this, folks.  Enjoy it while it lasts.

MANHUNTER #37

Start reading here!

Written by Marc Andreyko.  Illustrated by Michael Gaydos.  Cover by Brad Walker & Livesay.

This series is consistently one of the best comic books published, and this issue provides the perfect place for new readers to jump onboard this incredible series and discover what they’ve been missing.  And if you are reading it, good for you.  Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back for such excellent taste.  We strongly urge you to jump on board and give this fantastic and insightful read a try.  Month after month it delivers a gritty and intense story.  We guarantee you will keep reading it.

NIGHTWING #151

Written by Peter J. Tomasi.  Illustrated by Don Kramer and Jay Leisten.

Nightwing’s having a bad month.  First, he fights Batgirl in BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS.  Over in Titans, he’s dealing with a traitor.  Now, in his own book, he faces off against Two-Face in Arkham Asylum.  Add to that the stress of dealing with the fallout of BATMAN R.I.P., and Grayson must be feeling pretty dicked.

ROBIN #181

Written by Fabian Nicieza.  Illustrated by Freddie Williams II.

Who’s been running around in that Red Robin costume the past couple of issues?  The answer is revealed in these pages.  Plus, Anarky reigns over Gotham as Robin turns up missing.

TEEN TITANS #66

Written by Sean McKeever.  Illustrated by Eddy Barrows & Ruy Jose.

After whittling the team down through deaths, arguments, and other such cheerful things, McKeever marks a new period of rebuilding for the Titans by having them host a membership drive.

These things are always fun … just ask the Legion.

VIGILANTE #1

Written by Marv Wolfman.  Illustrated by Rick Leonardi.  Cover by Walter Simonson.

Marv Wolfman continues the story of the rough justice hero he introduced in the pages of NIGHTWING.  As the DC universe rides the bullet train to hell, New York is falling apart faster then an NHL expansion franchise.  With things getting bleaker by the second, the Vigilante comes forward to try and turn the tide and reintroduce justice to the city Rudy built.

BATMAN R.I.P. DELUXE EDITION HC

Written by Grant Morrison. Illustrated by Tony Daniel & Sandu Florea.  Cover by Alex Ross.

I guess everybody else in the DCU has died and come back, so it's Batman's turn.  KNIGHTFALL didn't really count because he just got real beat up by a Mexican wrestler on steroids.  The story that shattered Gotham and changed everything (until it gets restored later) is now available in one handy hard cover.  If somehow you are a big Bat fan and yet didn’t read this story, then this is without question the book for you.

BATMAN: THE STRANGE DEATHS OF BATMAN TP

Written by Gerry Conway & various.  Illustrated by Carmine Infantino & various.  Cover by Jim Aparo.

In the spirit of death, DC comics brings you a new collection featuring classic tales of the seeming death of the Dark Knight, from numerous eras and creative teams.

GREEN ARROW / BLACK CANARY: FAMILY BUSINESS TP

Written by Judd Winick.  Illustrated by Cliff Chiang, Mike Norton, & Wayne Faucher.

GA and BC are desperately racing to save Connor Hawk, who’s been mortally wounded by the League of (completely ineffectual) Assassins (I mean really when was the last time these guys successfully killed anyone?)  Regardless of how ineffectual his attackers are, Connor sits at death’s door and Ollie and Canary must enlist the regular help, Batman and Plastic Man.

HUNTRESS: YEAR ONE TP

Written by Ivory Madison.  Illustrated by Cliff Richards, Art Thibert, & Norm Rapmund.

A nice companion to Greg Rucka’s BATMAN / HUNTRESS tale from a few years back, this volume relates the story of what set Helena Bertinelli on the journey to become a purple-clad, cross-bow slinging vigilante.  Considering she’s from Sicily and a mob princess, it can’t be good.

STARMAN OMNIBUS VOL. 2 HC

Written by James Robinson.  Illustrated by Tony Harris and others.

One of the best runs in modern comic history continues with the second volume of the deluxe hardcover treatment.  An incredible discovery for anyone who missed it in its original run, or a wonderful chance to rediscover just how good it was for those of you who enjoyed the ride the first time.  And for anyone wondering, this is what keeps Brock happy when his wife is away.

ALL-STAR SUPERMAN VOL.2 HC

Written by Grant Morrison.  Illustrated by Frank Quitely.

Collecting issues 7-12, this book completes what may just be the definitive Superman story, from one of the most fascinating creative teams to ever work on the character.  This story will go down in comics history as a true classic.

VERTIGO

HAUNTED TANK #1

Written by Frank Marraffino.  Illustrated by Henry Flint.  Cover by Joe Kubert.

The old Haunted Tank series followed the exploits of a tank, haunted by the ghost of a civil war general, as it helped the allies win survive in World War II.  This incarnation sees the haunted M-1 Abrams take on modern day Iraq.  Here’s the twist: The ghost is a confederate general, and the tank commander is African American.  Who cares about terrorism when you have the new Odd Couple.  Racial comedy should ensue not seen since Dave Chapel had his break down.

Returning to her England after a thousand year exile, Madame Xanadu finds herself involved in a disturbing series of gruesome murders, perpetrated by a man calling himself “Jack the Ripper”.

HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL. 1: ROOM AND BOREDOM TP

Written by Matt Struges & Bill Willingham.  Illustrated by Luca Rossi and others.

This story about stories focuses on five individuals trapped in a strange house filled with even stranger creatures of all sorts, where people are forced to tell odd stories in exchange for drinks.  But why they are all stuck inside is just the tip of an even more intriguing question, one that relates to the very origins of the House itself and the relationship between our imagination and our subconscious.

SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING BOOK 1 HC

Written by Alan Moore.  Illustrated by Stephen Bisstte & John Totleben.

One of the all-time classic comics is collected in hardcover for the first time, and provides you with the perfect opportunity to read Alan Moore’s fantastic reinvention of Swamp Thing.

Start reading here!

Written by Kieron Gillen.  Illustrated by Jamie McKelvie.

The first series was an enjoyable surprise, especially for anyone who enjoys music (the annotated Brit-pop references in each issue of the original series were gold).  Worth a try if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary.

ROCK ‘N’  ROLL (one-shot)

Written by Fabio Moon & Gabriel Ba.  Illustrated by Fabio Moon, Gabriel Ba, Bruno D’Angelo, Kako.

I have no idea what this comic book is about, but it’s the first work by the incredible Ba brothers, and so that alone makes it worth picking up.

Another year, another anniversary for the undisputable cult phenomenon.  Walking Dead hits the five year mark.  In this special issue the characters we’ve grown to love (at least the characters who haven’t become zombie food yet) look back on how this world has affected them, what they’ve gained and lost, and look ahead at where they go from here.

DARK REIGN: Tie-Ins

ENDER’S SHADOW: BATTLE SCHOOL #1 & #2 (of 5)

Written by Mike Carey.  Illustrated by Sebastian Fiumara.

Ender Wiggin may have met his match in a silly little orphan boy the size of a bean.  We could make a homophobic joke here, but we’ve Bean there done that, so I’ll just point out that a creator’s personal bias, no matter how stupid, or bigoted should not stop you form enjoying their propaganda … er, I mean writing.

HULK FAMILY #1 (one-shot)

Written by Greg Pak & various.  Illustrated by various.  Cover by Marko Djurdjevic.

How a silly little nerd with a Hyde complex get’s lucky I’ll never know, but he’s scored enough to beget several offspring, all of whom have the same creepy green skin and Herculean strength of Daddy (or in She-Hulk’s case, cousin).  Now we get to enjoy the exciting tales of all of these misfit mighties in yet another God Damn One Shot!

INCOGNITO #1 (of 5)

Start reading here!

Written by Ed Brubaker.  Illustrated by Sean Phillips.

This book is going to be fan-freakin-tastic!  It will be an absolute must for anyone who has ever remotely liked anything by Ed Brubaker, and a very strong recommendation for everyone else.  I mean, seriously, this books might possibly be the best thing released next year.  The only down-side is that the excellent CRIMINAL goes on hold for six months while the creative team changes gears slightly for this project.  So if you are in fact reading this Elfbytes then please trust us and pick up this tale about a washed-up super villain in the witness protection program.

IRON MAN / HULK / FURY #1 (one-shot)

MARVELS: EYE OF THE CAMERA #1 & #2 (of 6)

Written by Kurt Busiek.  Illustrated by Jay Anacleto.

After what seems like seventy years in the making (so long that you’ll have to re-read MARVELS to remember what even happened), we finally get a new MARVELS series.  This one is drawn by Anacleto, who is the new Alex Ross.  Who was the new guy who whines like a bitch about people making comics dark, and then creating both EARTH X and KINGDOM COME like a goddamn hypocrite.

Yay a holiday One Shot #1!!!!  How F*#!ing festive!

PUNISHER MAX X-MAS SPECIAL (one-shot)

Written by Jason Aaron.  Illustrated by Roland Boschi.  Cover by Chris Bachalo.

Jason Aaron writes some damn fine comics, SCALPED being among the best comics being published today.  However, if you can't handle the idea of buying something without a fucking superhero in it, why not give his Punisher a shot.  You superhero loving baby.  It’s a heart warming tale of Punisher being infected with the Christmas spirit and inexplicably deciding to save a mobster from a bunch of other mobsters.

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE #1 – #4 (of 6)

Written by Garth Ennis. Illustrated by Steve Dillon.

The revenge of the quadriplegic mob boss Ma Gnucci is at hand!  Garth Ennis touches his inner silly again, and brings us his old school Punisher.  And by “old school” I mean the Punisher who kills people with polar bears and fat guys.  Yeah!  And the six issues of this series will be weekly!  Sweet!

SHE-HULK: COSMIC COLLISION (one-shot)

Written by Peter David.  Illustrated by Mahmud Asrar.  Cover by Stjepan Sejic.

THOR: GOD-SIZED #1 (one-shot)

Written by Matt Fraction. Illustrated by Doug Braithwaite, Dan Brereton, and Marko Djurdjevic. This one-shot has nothing to do with the regular Thor book, which is why it's probably going to be good.  That, and Matt Fraction writes a kick-ass God of Thunder!

WOLVERINE: FLIES TO A SPIDER #1 (one-shot)

Written by GreggHurwitz.  Illustrated by Jerome Opena.  Cover by Tim Bradstreet.

Wolverine cuts a biker gang down to size.

See how clever I am?

I used the word “cuts” when describing a character with claws.

That’s called allusion.

THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ #1 (of 8)

Start reading here!

Written by Eric Shanower.  Illustrated by Skottie Young.

The classic tale is adapted in an eight part series by hard-core Oz fan / expert Eric Shanower, and the wonderfully unique art of Skottie Young.  We’re not sure why Marvel publishes these literature adaptations, but this series adapting the creepy classic of midgets, flying monkeys, a country girl and her dog will absolutely be worth the ride down the yellow brick road.

That was the best Daredevil ever.

You know you want it.  Modeled after one of Star Trek’s most memorable and adorable (possibly disturbing) aliens ever to appear on the show, this plush features real sounds and motion.  6 inches of fur for your enjoyment and Klingon detection.

STAR WARS MIGHTY MUGGS FIGURES

Another assortment of Star Wars figures includes Hoth Han Solo, Darth Maul, and Darth Revan.

STAR WARS SUPER DEFORMED PLUSHES

They are tiny, they are soft, they are squishy, they have big heads, and they come from a galaxy far far away…a long time ago and in the future of course…collect individually or collect all four: Chewbacca, Yoda, Darth Vader, and Stormtrooper.

THOR CLASSIC HELMET 1/1 SCALE REPLICA

Now you can have your very own head gear just like the Norse God of Thunder!

Complete with wings!

Too bad it won’t ship in time for Halloween.

But there is always next year.

BUTTON BUTTON SC

Written by Richard Matheson.

Richard Matheson, author of I Am Legend and Hell House, is an astounding talent, and a master of the short story. He shows off this mastery in a new collection that takes its title from a story that asks the question: If you were given $50,000 every time you pressed a button, but someone died, would you still press it?
