MISERICORDIA #1

Written & Illustrated by Rebekah Brem.

This new series is being described as “a dystopian science fiction love story”, and looks to use many familiar archetypes to create something intriguing and entirely new.  Humanoid robots have supplanted humanity and taken over the planet.  A young human woman, Luscina Solita, journeys from her underground, refugee city to trade drugs and information with a robot obsessed with humans.  As infatuation and loneliness push the two closer together, Luscina's actions may place the future of the human race in jeopardy.  The book features some really distinct Egyptian-style art, and looks to be well worth a try.

 FALLEN ANGEL #21

Written by Peter David.  Illustrated by J.K. Woodward.

An underappreciated gem of a comic book, Peter David’s (X-Factor, She-Hulk) Fallen Angel is consistently one of the most interesting and enjoyable reads.  This issue spotlights the power and influence of the city of Bette Noir, and how it affects the world.

 WORMWOOD: ONE-SHOT

BLOOD+ VOLUME 1 GN

Written & Illustrated by Asuka Katsura.

The sequel to Blood: The Last Vampire.  Amnesiac demon-killer Saya Otonashi is called upon once again to battle violent and horrible monsters.  The anime of Blood: The Last Vampire was phenomenal in terms of action and gore, and the manga it was based upon was four times as awesome.  I expect big things from this series.

WONDER WOMAN #14 START READING HERE!

Written by Gail Simone.  Illustrated by Terry Dodson & Rachel Dodson.

This was supposed to happen in Wonder Woman #13, but DC's recent string of delayed and cancelled and re-solicited books rivals even Marvel Comics.  Hopefully this will ship before the next issue Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine.  The new team we were so excited about last month, starts for real this month, and should be worth the wait.  Gail Simone consistently writes excellent stories, and knows how to keep deadlines, and the Dodsons really know how to draw gorgeous women, so this should be a can’t miss comic.

WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY VOL 1 TP

Written by Gail Simone.  Illustrated by Neil l Googe.

Tranquility is a town where superheroes & super villains go to retire and live out the rest of their weird lives, until a murder upsets everything and long-forgotten secrets boil up to the surface.  It's a little bit like TOP TEN.  It's a little bit like TV's EUREKA.  It's one of the best books to come out in the last year.  We can't recommend it enough.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT #1 START READING HERE!

Pick this up and keep it on your shelf beside a flashlight, and if there’s a black out you can sit and read this and tide yourself over until you can get back in the game, thus avoiding the dreadful withdrawal syndrome!  Combining some of the most appealing anti- girlfriend traits know to man – comics and computer games – this can surely help to maintain your mom’s basement as a “Fortress of Solitude”.  If it doesn’t work, you’re using to much soap.  Dark Tower and Buffy have already brought brand new readers into the comic-book shops, and this game-based title will surely continue the trend.  The story begins with a human with no memory of his past who must fight against both the Alliance and the Horde in order to solve his past life’s mysteries.

TRINITY ACTION FIGURES AND NEW GODS ACTION FIGURES

DC continues to produce the most fantastic action figures (also useful for ensuring continued isolation from the opposite gender) by modeling them off the talents that have defined their characters. The rendering of previous sets based on the works of talents such as Jim Lee, Ed McGuiness and Tim Sale, not to mention Alex Ross, lead to very high expectations. The promotional photos available so far leads to great optimism as these figures perfectly capture the life and energy of artists Matt Wagner and Jack Kirby. Definitely sets to check out … or order in advance.
